PAS festival and Weekend of Science
Research into food allergies for young and old
During the PAS Festival in Maastricht and the Weekend of Science in Venlo, research into food allergies and allergen labelling took centre stage. Through two different activities, we brought science closer to the public. By collecting data on trust in allergen information and by teaching children about allergens in a playful way.
Research into trust in allergen labelling during the PAS Festival
During the PAS Festival, adult visitors were able to contribute to research into trust in allergen labelling. Using various scenarios and examples of food labels, we investigated how consumers assess the allergen information provided and to what extent they trust it. The data collected contributes to our research into how allergen information can be made clearer and more reliable, so that people with food allergies can make better-informed choices.
Learning through play during the Weekend of Science
During the Weekend of Science, children were introduced to food allergies in a playful and interactive way. Their task was to match different foods to the correct allergens. In this way, they learnt which allergens can be found in everyday products, whilst actively engaging with the subject.
